Alexy Khrabrov (Ph.D., Computer Science, University of Pennsylvania ) is
a computer scientist working at the intersection of startups, “big"
data, and functional programming. He builds and supports communities of
technologists creating value and having fun at this magical center of
the Venn diagram. Alexy is the first Chief Scientist at Nitro, bringing
data mining, NLP, Scala and Apache Spark technologies together to drive
the vision of Smart Documents. Alexy’s previous roles included the
first Director of Analytics at Clinkle, the first engineering co-founder
of Versal, an education technology startup, a senior research engineer
at Amazon and Klout, and a research scientist at Thayer School of
Engineering at Dartmouth and NEC Research Institute in Princeton.
Alexy likes to share the fun and learning with others, so he founded the
Scala for Startups meetup and organizes its successor SF Scala
(sfscala.org), the largest Scala meetup in the world, as well as SF
meetup, and Reactive.Community, a meetup around the best practices for
building scalable systems. Alexy founded and runs the SF Scala yearly
conference, called Scala By the Bay (scala.bythebay.io), and organizes
Data By the Bay — a sequence of new conferences on applied Natural
Language Processing (text.bythebay.io), Big Data Pipelines
they can, Alexy, his wife, and their four kids go to enjoy the great
nature of the West.
